Ford is recalling approximately 23,831 Focus Electric and C-Max models so that they make an audible door chime when the driver’s door is opened while the push-button start is engaged.
Vehicles affected by the recall are 2012-2013 Focus EVs and 2013 C-Max Hybrid and Energi models, which currently do not play the alert that is required by federal regulation. The regulation was put in place to prevent drivers with push-button starts from leaving their key fobs inside the vehicle accidentally.

Approximately 22,900 of the affected vehicles are in the U.S. while the remaining are in Canada. Ford will modify the software on the affected vehicles so that they play the door chime on the push-button start equipped vehicles.
